Functional Skills Teacher

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Teacher to deliver engaging, high-quality education to young people aged 14–19. This is a full time TTO only role working 41 weeks of the year.

This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference by helping students build confidence, develop core skills and achieve meaningful outcomes. You will create positive learning experiences that support progress, encourage independence and prepare learners for their next steps in education, training or employment.

Working as part of a supportive team, you will deliver inspiring lessons and contribute to a culture where students feel motivated to learn and succeed.

Key responsibilities include:

• Deliver Functional Skills teaching from Entry Level to Level 2 in Maths and/or English.
• Plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet individual learner needs and encourage progress.
• Create an inclusive and positive learning environment where students feel supported to achieve.
• Monitor and assess learner progress, setting clear targets and recognising success.
• Develop and adapt learning resources to support effective teaching and learning.
• Build positive relationships with students to increase engagement and confidence.
• Work collaboratively with families, colleagues and external partners to support learner outcomes.
• Contribute to a safe, supportive and respectful education environment.
• Support curriculum development and continuous improvement across the provision.
• Maintain accurate records and complete associated teaching and assessment administration.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and uphold safeguarding and compliance standards.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Holds a recognised teaching qualification (for example PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent).
• Has experience teaching Maths and/or English.
• Is passionate about helping young people succeed.
• Brings strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Has a flexible, learner-focused approach to teaching.
