General Foreman - United Utilities Shaft Sinking
A well-established national Tier 2 Civil Engineering Contractor is seeking an experienced General Foreman to join its North West division working on Projects across the Cumbria Region. The role will support the delivery of a varied portfolio of United Utilities water infrastructure projects across the region.

- Deep Drainage & Utilities
- Reinforced Concrete Structures
- Water & Wastewater Infrastructure
- Pumping Stations & Associated Civils
- Access Works & Site Infrastructure
Role & Responsibilities:
- Day-to-day management and supervision of site activities on water infrastructure projects
- Leading site teams including foremen, engineers, operatives, and specialist subcontractors
- Ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, and to specification
- Overseeing complex operations including shaft sinking and micro tunnelling activities
- Coordinating plant, materials, and labour requirements
- Implementing and enforcing Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality standards
- Working closely with Site Managers and Project Managers to drive productivity and programme delivery
- Reviewing and implementing RAMS and method statements, particularly for high-risk underground works
- Maintaining accurate site records, progress reports, and site diaries
- Liaising with clients, including United Utilities representatives, and key stakeholders
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards, water authority specifications, and relevant legislation
Candidate Requirements:
- Proven experience as a General Foreman on civil engineering or water infrastructure projects
- Strong background in shaft sinking, micro tunnelling, and deep drainage
- Experience working on United Utilities or similar water authority frameworks is highly desirable
- SMSTS (preferred) or SSSTS
- CSCS Gold or Black Card
- First Aid at Work
- Strong understanding of health & safety in high-risk environments, including confined spaces
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to work across multiple sites within the North West
