General Teaching Assistant – Year 6 Academic Support Role

Pay: £90–£100.80 per day

Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training. Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with a strong understanding of the KS2 curriculum?

A highly regarded primary school in Barnet is seeking a confident and enthusiastic Year 6 Teaching Assistant to provide academic support in Maths and English. This is a part-time role, working mornings only, with the possibility of one afternoon per week.

This is not an SEN support position. The class does not include any pupils with EHCPs, allowing the successful candidate to focus entirely on supporting learning, raising attainment, and helping pupils prepare for the transition to secondary school.

The school has a strong track record of academic success and is looking for a Teaching Assistant who can help maintain high standards and support pupils in achieving their full potential.

The Role

As a Year 6 Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils in Maths and English lessons
• Deliver targeted academic interventions and small-group support
• Reinforce key KS2 learning objectives
• Help pupils build confidence and prepare for SATs and secondary school
• Work closely with the class teacher to support progress and attainment
• Encourage positive learning behaviours and classroom engagement

Requirements
Essential
• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school
• Good knowledge of the KS2 curriculum, particularly Maths and English
• Confidence supporting pupils academic progress
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• A proactive, organised, and positive approach

Desirable
• Experience working in Year 6 or upper KS2
• Relevant Teaching Assistant, Education, or Childcare qualification
