Groundworks Quantity Surveyor – Maidstone

Our client is a well-established and growing contractor delivering high-quality groundwork and civil engineering solutions across the South East. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of projects, they are seeking an experienced Groundworks Quantity Surveyor to join their team based in Maidstone.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused Quantity Surveyor with a background in groundworks, enabling works, infrastructure, and civil engineering projects to play a key role in the successful delivery of multiple schemes.

The Role

As a Groundworks Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of projects from tender stage through to final account, ensuring profitability and contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the commercial delivery of groundwork and civil engineering projects.

  • Preparing and submitting valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts.

  • Monitoring project costs, budgets, and forecasts.

  • Identifying and managing variations, change control, and compensation events.

  • Reviewing and negotiating subcontractor packages and accounts.

  • Producing cost reports and commercial updates for senior management.

  • Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.

  • Supporting procurement activities and supplier negotiations.

  • Working closely with operational teams to maximise project performance and profitability.

  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities across projects.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the groundworks, civil engineering, or construction sector.

  • Strong understanding of commercial management principles and contract administration.

  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and numerical abilities.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.

  • Knowledge of JCT and NEC forms of contract.

  • Experience working on residential infrastructure and groundwork packages.

  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or working towards chartered status.
