Health & Safety Advisor – Civil Engineering / Construction

Location: Central Newcastle
Salary: Low to mid £40,000s per annum, plus car allowance or company car
Employment Type: PAYE, full-time staff role
Contract: Potentially permanent or 2-year fixed-term contract

Fulcrum Recruitment is working with a well-established civil engineering main contractor based in the North East to source a Health & Safety Advisor.

This is an opportunity to join a respected contractor delivering a major project in central Newcastle. The role could potentially be a permanent position from the outset, a two-year fixed-term contract, or a fixed-term position that leads to being retained beyond the initial two-year period, depending on workload and how discussions develop.

Please note this is a PAYE, full-time role working 5 days per week. It is not a limited company, day-rate or part-time opportunity.

The Role:

  • Supporting site teams with day-to-day health and safety matters
  • Carrying out site inspections, audits and safety checks
  • Reviewing and advising on RAMS
  • Delivering toolbox talks and site briefings
  • Supporting incident and near-miss investigations
  • Helping ensure works are delivered safely and in line with CDM requirements
  • Working closely with site management, subcontractors and specialist package contractors
  • Supporting a project involving working from height, scaffolding, shot blasting, repainting, steelwork, steel patch repairs and area replacements

Ideal Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Health & Safety Advisor within construction or civil engineering
  • NEBOSH Construction or NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015
  • Experience with RAMS, site inspections, audits, toolbox talks and incident investigation
  • TechIOSH or working towards
  • CSCS card, or willingness / eligibility to obtain one
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable Experience:

  • ISO 45001 Internal Auditor qualification, although the company would be prepared to invest in the right person if they do not already hold this
  • First Aid
  • Environmental / ISO 14001 awareness
  • Confined spaces awareness
  • Asbestos awareness
  • Experience working for a civil engineering main contractor or construction company
