Fabric Engineer – Retail / External Grounds

Location: Bluewater Shopping Centre, Dartford

Role Overview

We are recruiting a Fabric Engineer to deliver planned and reactive fabric maintenance across a large, high‑profile retail shopping centre. This role includes responsibility for external building fabric and grounds, alongside internal PPMs.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver PPM and reactive fabric maintenance across the site
• Carry out general fabric works: carpentry, patch repairs, basic plumbing, painting & decorating
• Inspect and maintain fire doors and internal finishes
• Take ownership of external fabric and grounds, including paving, street furniture, handrails, bollards, signage and external fixtures
• Complete routine external inspections and raise defects proactively
• Coordinate and oversee specialist subcontractors for external / grounds works
• Use CAFM / PDA systems to log and close works accurately
• Ensure all works comply with Health & Safety requirements, especially in public areas

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Fabric Engineer / Fabric Technician
• Strong all‑round building fabric skillset (carpentry preferred)
• Experience working with external fabric or grounds maintenance
• Comfortable working in busy, public‑facing retail environments
• Good understanding of PPM delivery and reactive maintenance
• Health & Safety awareness (RAMS, COSHH, Working at Height)

Desirable:

• Civils qualification
• IPAF, PASMA, manual handling competency
• Fire door experience
• Retail or large estate experience
