Health and Safety Manager Hybrid working home/ office / multi-site

The role

This position will take responsibility for supporting and improving health and safety standards across live construction environments.

The role will involve working closely with site teams, subcontractors and senior management to maintain safe working practices, support compliance, investigate incidents, and help drive a positive safety culture across multiple projects.

It will suit someone who is confident operating at site and management level, able to challenge poor standards constructively, and comfortable providing practical advice in a busy construction setting.

Main responsibilities

• Provide health and safety support across live construction projects

• Carry out site inspections, audits and checks to monitor standards and safe working practices

• Support and lead accident, incident and near-miss investigations, including reporting and follow-up actions

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health and safety legislation and support ongoing compliance

• Develop and deliver internal training, toolbox talks, safety alerts and best-practice guidance

• Work closely with site teams, project managers, subcontractors and senior leaders to improve health and safety performance

• Challenge unsafe behaviours, poor standards and recurring issues in a constructive and effective way

• Report key findings, trends and concerns to senior management

• Maintain incident data and support the reporting of key health and safety performance indicators

• Support wider SHEQ activity, including environmental, quality and compliance initiatives where required

• Assist with health and safety input for bids, tenders and client submissions

• Support third-party audit, accreditation and compliance processes

• Liaise with external parties such as regulators, insurers and other stakeholders where required

• Provide support during serious incidents, urgent safety matters or crisis management situations

• Promote a practical, consistent and positive safety culture across the business

About you

You will be an experienced Health and Safety professional with a strong construction background and the confidence to influence standards across live sites.

This is a hands-on role, not a purely desk-based compliance position. You will need to be visible, credible and able to build strong relationships with site teams, subcontractors and senior stakeholders.

Experience and qualifications

• Previous experience in a Health and Safety Manager, H&S Manager, HSEQ Manager or similar role

• Strong construction industry experience, ideally across live building or construction projects

• Recognised health and safety qualification such as NEBOSH Construction, NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent

• Strong understanding of construction site risks, safe systems of work and contractor management

• Experience carrying out audits, inspections and compliance checks across multiple sites

• Experience leading or supporting incident investigations and producing clear reports

• Experience developing or delivering toolbox talks, training or safety briefings

• Ability to provide practical advice to site teams, managers and senior leaders

• Environmental or quality experience would be beneficial but is not essential

Package and working arrangement

• Salary in the region of £60,000 to £70,000, depending on experience

• Car allowance of £5,500

• Hybrid working arrangement, typically two days working from home
