Michael Page is working with working with a leading Global FMCG Manufacturing business to recruit a HSE Manager in Greater Manchester. Established almost 100 years ago, this organisation has c.20 sites worldwide, supplying its product to major retailers globally . They are now looking for a strong HSE Manager to join their Manchester based operation.
Description
The HSE Manager will report to the Site Director and will form a crucial part of the site leadership team. They will have responsibility for all HSE activities across site and will be tasked with developing, implementing and maintaining HS&E policies inline with external legislation and internal policies.
Day to day responsibilities will include:
- Lead the site HSE strategy within a COMAH-regulated environment, driving Zero Harm and Zero Waste and promoting a strong safety‑first culture.
- Ensure full COMAH, UK/EU regulatory and Group HSE compliance, acting as the primary contact for regulators, auditors, and external authorities.
- Own and maintain the Safety Management System, ensuring clear operational ownership of major accident hazard controls and environmental controls.
- Lead HAZID/HAZOPs, risk assessments, incident investigations, and delivery of effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Drive continuous improvement in safety performance, environmental sustainability, and occupational health, using robust KPIs and reporting.
- Lead, coach, and develop the HSE team, delivering high‑impact training, emergency preparedness, and building long‑term HSE capability.
Profile
The successful HSE Manager will possess a range of the following:
- Demonstrable experience managing a HSE function within a Top Tier COMAH- regulated environment
- Strong leadership acumen with the ability to effectively communicate and manage teams across a 24/7 operation
- Nebosh Diploma or Equivalent
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence all levels of the organisation to improve health and safety
- Highly organised
- A strong understanding of UK/EU Health, Safety & Environment legislations within a manufacturing environment
