HSSEQ Specialist

Newcastle based with occasional International travel required

A leading engineering organisation is seeking an experienced HSSE Specialist to support and drive its Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental programmes across operational and project environments.

This is a key role focused on implementing best-in-class HSSE practices, ensuring compliance, and promoting a proactive safety culture across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continuously improve HSSE management systems in line with ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015, and support ISO 9001:2015 standards
  • Ensure HSSE policies, procedures, and strategies are effectively communicated and embedded within the organisation
  • Provide HSSE guidance and support to both operational teams and project delivery functions
  • Lead the development and delivery of HSSE plans, documentation, and project-specific requirements
  • Conduct risk assessments, develop safe systems of work, and promote a strong safety culture
  • Carry out site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor high-risk activities and intervene where necessary to maintain safe working practices
  • Plan and conduct internal and external audits, including coordination of third-party certification audits
  • Lead or support the investigation of incidents, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Deliver HSSE training, inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings
  • Manage HSSE data systems, compliance registers, and undertake trend analysis
  • Support wider health and wellbeing initiatives across the organisation
  • Provide HSSE support to UK and international projects, including client-facing activities

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in an HSSE role within an engineering, manufacturing, or project-based environment
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO management systems (45001, 14001, 9001)
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Willingness to travel (UK & international) as required
