Instrument Technicians for Shutdown Work

£32.00 per hour (CIS / LTD)

We are currently looking for experienced Instrument Techs to support a planned major shutdown on a large-scale chemical manufacturing site in south Wales.

This is a well-organised shutdown being delivered by an established Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) contractor, operating within high-hazard, safety-critical environments across the UK.

The Role

You will be working as part of a dedicated shutdown team, focused on delivering key inspection, maintenance and commissioning activities within a live industrial environment.

Duties will include:

  • Instrument calibration, maintenance and fault finding
  • Supporting shutdown and turnaround works across process systems
  • Assisting with installation, loop checks and functional testing
  • Supporting commissioning and handover activities
  • Working closely with supervisors and engineers to deliver works safely and efficiently
  • Ensuring full compliance with site safety procedures and permit systems

  • Large, complex chemical / process plant operating 24/7
  • Work carried out in a COMAH / hazardous area environment
  • Strict safety, compliance and quality standards
  • Fast-paced shutdown with a clear programme and delivery deadlines

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience as an Instrument Technician in industrial or process environments
  • Strong background in shutdown, maintenance, and calibration work

Essential:

  • Valid CCNSG / Safety Passport

Desirable:

  • CompEx certification
  • Previous experience in chemical, petrochemical, energy, or heavy industrial sectors

Pay & Hours

  • £32.00 per hour standard rate
  • Overtime paid from 45 hours per week
  • Saturday (up to 12pm): x1.4 = £44.80 per hour
  • Sunday overtime: x1.8 = £57.60 per hour
  • Approx. 70 hours per week (10-hour shifts)
  • 4-week shutdown
  • Weekly pay
  • CIS or LTD payment options available
