Salary: £37,000 - £40,000 depending on experience, with flexibility for the right candidate who can demonstrate strong technical capability and relevant industry experience
About the Role
Barker Ross is recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist in mechanised irrigation and water management. They are seeking a hands-on Irrigation Engineer to join their growing team. This is a practical, varied role-not a repetitive maintenance position.
You will work on large-scale irrigation equipment, including:
- Irrigation booms and hose reels
- Pumps and pumping systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Diesel-driven equipment
- Electrical control systems, automation, sensors, and controls
The role combines hands-on work with technical problem-solving, both in the workshop and occasionally on customer sites. You'll work closely with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, service, and repair mechanised irrigation systems
- Diagnose faults on pumps, motors, valves, hydraulic systems, diesel drives, sensors, and control systems
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Identify improvements to reliability, efficiency, and system performance
- Maintain accurate service and project records
About You
- Strong practical ability and broad technical mindset
- Experience as an Irrigation Engineer, Agricultural Engineer, Multi-Skilled Engineer, Pump Engineer, or similar
- Knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, pumps, electrical control systems, automation, sensors, or manufacturing equipment is advantageous
- Enjoys practical engineering and problem-solving
- Works independently and takes ownership
- Communicates effectively with customers and colleagues
- Organised, reliable, and eager to develop specialist engineering knowledge
- Full UK driving license required
