Job Title: Junior Mechanical Engineer (Nights)

Location: London WC1B
Salary: £35,000 – £42,000 (depending on experience)
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (8:00 PM – 8:00 AM)

Overview

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Junior Mechanical Engineer to join a large on-site engineering team at a prestigious and historic site in London.

This role is ideal for a developing engineer looking to build hands-on experience within building services and mechanical maintenance, working alongside experienced engineers in a supportive environment.

You will play a key role in supporting the smooth operation of critical building systems during night shifts, gaining exposure to a wide range of plant and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across mechanical and building systems
  • Support the maintenance of HVAC systems, including AHUs and FCUs
  • Carry out basic fault finding on mechanical equipment such as pumps and motors
  • Assist in maintaining temperature control and ventilation systems
  • Respond to breakdowns and support senior engineers in resolving issues
  • Conduct routine inspections and report any defects or risks
  • Ensure all works are carried out in line with health & safety procedures
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and job reports
  • Work collaboratively with the wider engineering team to ensure site reliability

Requirements

  • NVQ or City & Guilds Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (or equivalent)
  • Some hands-on experience in a maintenance or engineering environment (commercial or industrial preferred)
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical plant (AHUs, FCUs, pumps, etc.)
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Ability to work night shifts and as part of a team

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Previous experience within facilities management or building services
  • Exposure to BMS systems
  • F-Gas certification (or willingness to obtain)
