RCMA Agricultural Storage Ltd provide seamless supply-chain integration for our customers to the end user through our strategically positioned grain storage facility in Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire.

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Lab Technician at our Stratford upon Avon site. Reporting to the Lab Supervisor, the successful applicant will assist with the smooth running of the Lab, ensuring incoming and out-loading vehicles are weighed in and out, tested and recorded correctly.

Key Tasks

  • Helping to coordinate the weighing of incoming and out-loading vehicles.
  • Testing a variety of different arable crops and recording results correctly and clearly both electronically and as paper records.
  • Tasks as directed by Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Working as part of a team, under pressure to a deadline.
  • Gathering accurate information on crop grades, specifications etc.
  • Helping to check driver’s paperwork to ensure they are sent to the correct intake pit or bulk tank on site.
  • Adhere to TASCC code of practice for the Testing of combinable crops and animal feeds by accurately testing the grain and following set procedures.
  • Helping to monitor Critical Control Points within the RCMA HACCP system
  • To take responsibility for positive release of product to consumer.
  • Apply methods and techniques to test the quality of raw materials, intermediary and final products and ensure results are within company and customer quality control specifications.
  • Use a variety of instrumentation to conduct physical and chemical analysis.
  • Prepare reagents for testing of product samples where required.
  • Produce certificate of analysis for raw materials, intermediate and finished goods, including positive release of products when the product specification has been confirmed through testing.
  • Conduct laboratory equipment calibration, verification, and daily checks.
  • Ensure that quality levels are maintained in accordance with relevant company procedures and documentation is accurately completed.
  • Carry out internal audits to comply with Laboratory and factory standards(QA role).
  • Conduct environmental swabbing when needed.
  • Ensure all operations are conducted in line with current Health and Safety legislations.

The successful applicant will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Educated to degree level with an appropriate qualification in chemistry, food science or general science.
  • Demonstrable experience of using HPLC, GC / FID, ICP -OES or other chemical equipment. 
  • Previous working experience conducting laboratory tests with the ability to follow agreed laboratory procedures, within a manufacturing, or process environment.
  • Experience of working with and interpreting technical documents including vendor and customer specifications.
  • Excellent IT skills, for instance using spreadsheet for entering internal quality control data.
  • Previous working experience in an agricultural or food production role would be an advantage
  • Internal Audit Certification and auditing experience would be an advantage. 
  • HACCP Awareness would be an advantage.
  • Eligible to live and work in the UK without restriction.

Working Pattern

Monday to Friday 10:30am to 07:00pm. You will be required to work one weekend in 7 with 2 days off in the following week.

This role will require working in an agricultural environment with exposure to wheat, grain dust and other allergens.

Please note this is a remote site not on a public transport route, and the use of own transport will be necessary.
