Lead Workshop Technician

Role

KBM Resourcing are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Lead Workshop Technician. Main duties will be to oversee daily workshop activities, support and mentor technicians, and ensure equipment is maintained, tested, and prepared to the highest standards.

The successful candidate will play a key role in workshop operations, equipment builds and repairs, while promoting safe and efficient working practices within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support day-to-day workshop activities and assigned technicians.
  • Assist with planning technician workloads and equipment preparation.
  • Build, maintain, repair, and test subsea tooling and hydraulic equipment.
  • Prepare equipment for hire, ensuring all items are functional, documented, and presented to a high standard.
  • Support and mentor workshop team members, helping develop technical skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure all workshop activities are carried out safely and in line with QHSE procedures.
  • Maintain workshop tools and plant equipment in line with manufacturer recommendations.
  • Assist with risk assessments, safety initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams and clients when required.
  • Occasionally travel to client sites for equipment mobilisation and support.

Requirements

Knowledge & Technical Experience

  • Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, components, and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience working with subsea tooling and back deck equipment such as:
    • Torque Tools
    • Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs)
    • Hose Reels
    • Shear Cutters
    • Grabs
    • Control Systems
  • Ability to fault-find, assemble, test, and maintain hydraulic equipment.
  • Previous experience within a workshop environment servicing subsea or offshore equipment.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience

Skills & Competencies

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety.
  • Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Word.

Qualifications

  • ONC / HNC / Apprenticeship / City & Guilds in a Mechanical or Hydraulic discipline.
  • Time-served industry experience within a hydraulic or mechanical role.
  • Industry experience working with subsea tooling or back deck equipment.
