As part of an ongoing drive to ensure apprentices receive outstanding Functional Skills maths and English provision, Solihull College & University Centre is seeking an hourly paid lecturer to deliver Functional Skills English and/or maths to apprentices across a range of vocational areas and employer settings.

The successful candidate will support apprentices to achieve Functional Skills qualifications at Level 1 and Level 2 within agreed timescales, through flexible, responsive and highly individualised delivery models.

We are looking for someone who will work alongside the Maths and English and Apprenticeships Teams in:

• Providing innovative, engaging and supportive teaching, learning and assessment.

• Managing a rolling caseload of apprentices, supporting learners with varying starting      points, confidence levels and support needs.

• Delivering a combination of fast-track courses, small group sessions and 1:1 support.

• Supporting apprentices to make rapid and sustained progress towards achievement       in Functional Skills maths and/or English.

• Maintaining accurate records of progress, attendance and achievement, ensuring           learners remain on track to meet agreed targets and deadlines.

• Communicating effectively and regularly with apprentices, assessors and employers      regarding learner engagement, progress and support needs.

Delivery will be a combination of face-to-face teaching across the College’s Blossomfield, Woodlands and Stratford campuses, along with some delivery taking place at employer/partnership premises or at outreach venues. The role will also involve some remote delivery.

You must a minimum level 3 qualification in English and minimum level 2 in maths, together with an appropriate subject or professional qualification relevant to the area you wish to deliver and ideally possess a Level 5 teaching qualification or be prepared to work towards an appropriate teaching qualification.

Experience of delivering Functional Skills within Further Education, apprenticeships or secondary education would be advantageous. The role would suit teachers with experience of supporting learners from Entry Level through to Level 2, particularly those who are confident adapting delivery to meet a wide range of learner needs and abilities.
