Legal Assistant / Paralegal - Private Client

Salary: £24,000 - £28,000 (depending on experience)
Location: Ilkley
Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm, 35 hours per week

Full-time, Permanent Position

Our client is seeking an organised and confident Legal Assistant / Paralegal to join their Private Client Department based in Ilkley. This role is ideal for someone who has experience working within a busy legal environment and is comfortable communicating with clients on sensitive matters. You will provide comprehensive administrative and paralegal support to Fee Earners, helping to ensure a high‑quality, personal service is delivered at all times. Previous experience in Private Client work, particularly Wills and Probate, would be highly beneficial.

The Key Responsibilities of the Legal Assistant / Paralegal - Private Client:

  • Provide full administrative and paralegal support to Fee Earners within the Private Client team
  • Manage client matters accurately and efficiently using the case management system
  • Prepare, organise, and maintain legal files and supporting documentation
  • Draft correspondence and legal documents using audio typing, digital dictation, and word processing
  • Manage diaries for Fee Earners, including arranging client appointments and meetings
  • Handle client and third‑party telephone calls and enquiries professionally and sensitively
  • Assist with Wills, Probate, and Estate Administration matters
  • Witness will signings and other legal documents where required
  • Prepare client bills and support basic accounts administration
  • Ensure clients are kept informed throughout their matter, following up proactively where required
  • Support colleagues and contribute to the smooth running of the department

The Key Requirements of the Legal Assistant / Paralegal:

Essential:

  • Experience working within a busy legal department
  • Strong communication skills and confidence when dealing with clients
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team and on your own initiative

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within a Private Client department
  • Exposure to Wills and Probate work
  • Familiarity with legal case management systems
