Job Description:

To ensure the safe operation and maintenance of all plant and machinery and to maximise utilisation and efficiency.

Summary of duties and responsibilities (state key tasks)

  • Site maintenance –Electrical and pneumatic systems, signs, general heating system (wood pellets), drainage.
  • Problem solving – diagnosis and identifying issues and solutions.
  • Repair breakdowns –all equipment and services
  • Preventative maintenance.
  • Use of machine tools lathes, millers, drillers, grinders etc.
  • Technical manuals for machines refer to as required.
  • Assists in ordering of spares/ stock levels with Supervisor.
  • Use of measuring equipment (micrometers/Vernier’s) etc.
  • Refreshes oil daily adhering to the Oil Recycling process.
  • Follows company procedures.

Qualification required for job (minimum formal academic required)

City Guilds preferred.

Experience required to do the job (Minimum previous experience plus familiarisation of the job including training (eg is apprentice required)

Apprenticeship preferred, approx. 5 years.

Responsibility for people (state numbers involved and type of personnel involved)

Indirectly – responsibility for the safety Operatives.

Fire Marshall, First Aider, member of the Spill Team.

Responsibility for costs (State £ value involved and give brief outline of type of decisions taken)

  • Utilisation of machines. If low would be costly to company.
  • Incorrect diagnostic for repairing machines.
  • Incorrect repairs to machines.
  • Ordering incorrect parts for machines.
  • Refurbishment of parts not correctly completed

Contacts inside and outside the company (state whether routine or complex information and degree of sensitivity)

Inside: Operators, foreman, setters, stores, production manager

(routine contact, moderately complex information)

Outside: Suppliers (parts) occasional.

Analytical requirements (State type of analysis work / information involved, with frequency, whether straightforward or complex)

  • Problem solving - diagnostics for machine breakdowns (Diagnostics).
  • Interpreting Engineering drawings and Tech. Data (manuals).
  • Ordering of spares for repairs.
  • Refurbishment – Adjustment to machine tools and fitting.

Manual skills (Give type of operations involved with degree of co-ordination skill required. Is operation, occasional, frequent or of a continuous nature)

  • Use of machine tools – lathes, millers etc. on a daily basis.
  • Use of hand tools – spanners, screwdrivers etc on a daily basis.
  • Use of measuring equipment – micro/Vernier’s etc on a daily basis.
  • Use of fork lift truck to move parts/oil – once/twice a week.

Physical effort (Give type of physical effort, state machinery/ equipment involved with the frequency of operation)

  • Repairs to machines – strenuous and physical
  • Heavy lifting of machine parts -
  • Use of hand tools: spanners etc.
