Location: Devizes, Wiltshire
Salary £32,000 - £39,000 per annum (including shift allowance)

We are currently working in partnership with a leading manufacturing organisation to recruit an experienced Lead Operator to join their night shift production team on a permanent basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineering professional with strong machine setting, fault finding, and maintenance experience to step into a key role within a high-performing production environment. The successful candidate will also provide support in a supervisory capacity when required, assisting with shift leadership duties.

Working Pattern

  • Sunday: 11:00pm - 7:00am
  • Monday to Thursday: 10:00pm - 6:00am
  • 39 hours per week - Permanent night shift

The Role

As Lead Operator, you will be responsible for setting, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting a range of specialist manufacturing equipment used in a precision engineering environment. You will play a vital role in ensuring production targets are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.

In addition, you will support continuous improvement activities and assist with first-line leadership responsibilities during shift leader absence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and optimise specialist production machinery
  • Carry out fault finding and diagnostics on equipment
  • Perform first-line maintenance and support tooling requirements
  • Monitor and control processes to maximise output and minimise scrap
  • Use precision measuring equipment within a manufacturing environment
  • Support workflow coordination in liaison with production planning
  • Assist with shift handovers and supervisory duties when required
  • Drive continuous improvement and maintain quality standards

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Strong machine setting, operating, and fault-finding skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
  • A proactive approach with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Flexibility to support business needs and production demands
