Mechanical Fitter

Wakefield | £17.20 per hour | Temp to Perm | Days

A well-established precision engineering company in Wakefield is looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join their team on an initial 12-week temporary basis — with real potential beyond that.

You'll be working on bespoke, low-volume machinery in a close-knit workshop environment, with occasional travel to customer sites for installations. After 12 weeks, the right candidate could move into a permanent position, continue on a rolling contract, or — if it's not the right fit on either side — part ways. Straightforward and transparent.

If you take pride in your work, can read a drawing, and want to get your foot in the door with a reputable engineering business, this is worth a look.

The Role

• Building and assembling special purpose machinery from engineering drawings

• Installing equipment on-site at customer premises when required

• Using hand tools, lifting equipment and workshop machinery

• Carrying out risk assessments and following HSE safe working practices

• Liaising with customer technical teams during installation phases

• Flagging ideas to improve build methods and assembly processes

What We're Looking For

• HNC in Mechanical Engineering or solid equivalent hands-on experience

• Proven background in mechanical assembly or machinery build

• Confident reading and working from detailed engineering drawings

• Sound knowledge of machine safety and safe systems of work

• Comfortable in customer-facing environments when on site

• Willingness to travel occasionally for installation work

• Experience with basic electrical or pneumatic systems is a bonus — not a dealbreaker

What's on Offer

• £17.20 per hour

• 12-week temporary contract to start

• Three clear outcomes at 12 weeks: permanent, rolling temp, or contract end

• Day shifts: Mon–Thu 08:00–16:30 / Fri 08:00–15:15

• Bonus scheme and company pension (on permanent contract)

• Ongoing training and development

This is a solid opportunity to join a respected precision engineering business working on genuinely interesting bespoke machinery — with a straightforward path to something longer-term for the right person.
