Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Location: Blackburn
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000
Hours: Monday to Thursday: 08:00am - 5:00pm / Friday: 08:00am - 3:00pm

Introduction

ES Recruit are currently recruiting for an experienced and proactive Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our client's team based in Blackburn. Reporting directly to the Factory Director, you will play a key role in ensuring all plant, equipment, and facilities are maintained to the highest operational and safety standards.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone with strong mechanical engineering knowledge, excellent problem-solving abilities, and experience working within an industrial manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the Factory Director, Maintenance Manager, Process Engineer, and Production Manager regarding new plant requirements.
  • Support the effective running of production through maintenance, breakdown response, and plant improvement activities.
  • Ensure all plant and measuring equipment is maintained and operating efficiently.
  • Manage contractors safely and ensure compliance with company safe systems of work.
  • Ensure Permit to Work systems are adhered to by employees and contractors.
  • Identify inefficient or obsolete equipment and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain the site and surrounding areas to a high standard.
  • Coordinate with the Sales Department and engineering teams regarding customer engineering requirements.
  • Ensure servicing and maintenance schedules are completed and kept up to date.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedules for internal plant equipment.
  • Keep accurate records of repairs, servicing, and purchases.
  • Ensure all site security and fire prevention measures are carried out.
  • Complete job-specific risk assessments and follow all Safe Systems of Work.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Previous experience in a similar maintenance engineering role.
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach.
  • Knowledge of pumps, valves, mixers, and motors.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Compressed Air Systems
  • Thermal Oil Systems
  • Hot Water & Steam Systems
