As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring site machinery operates efficiently and reliably. Working on a shift-based rota, the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for hands-on maintenance, fault finding, and repair of a wide range of mechanical systems to minimise downtime and support continuous production.
In this Mechanical Maintenance Engineer position, your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine inspections across site equipment
- Diagnosing and resolving mechanical faults quickly to reduce production downtime
- Repairing or replacing components across machinery including thermoformers, extruders, conveyors, compressors, pumps, motors, HVAC systems, and gearboxes
- Supporting installation, commissioning, and testing of new machinery
- Ensuring all maintenance activities comply with Health & Safety, Quality, Hygiene, and Environmental standards
- Completing maintenance documentation, reports, and handovers accurately
- Working collaboratively with production teams, maintenance colleagues, and external contractors
- Managing and maintaining spare parts inventory and escalating requirements when needed
- Supporting root cause analysis investigations and implementing long-term solutions
- Identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and performance
- Supporting fire safety procedures, including alarm testing and acting as a fire marshal when required
- Highlighting potential equipment or tooling issues that may impact production performance
- A recognised mechanical qualification (City & Guilds, ONC/HNC or equivalent)
- Proven experience within a manufacturing or production environment
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, and HVAC
- Experience working with PPM systems and maintenance schedules
- Solid fault-finding and problem-solving skills, ideally with Root Cause Analysis experience
- The ability to work effectively within a shift-based environment
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Abrasive wheels certification
