An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing company in Cambridgeshire. This is a varied, hands-on role within a busy factory environment, working on a wide range of production and fabrication machinery.
This position would suit a practical engineer who enjoys fault finding, preventative maintenance and keeping production running efficiently. While some basic electrical knowledge is useful, the role is primarily mechanically focused.
Permanent position | Fully onsite / car required to get to the site
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance and repair of site machinery including mills, lathes, drills and sheet metal fabrication equipment
- Planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown support
- Installation and assembly of new machinery and equipment
- General site maintenance including basic electrical work and plumbing
- Supporting continuous improvement and quality engineering standards across the site
- Working with hand tools, polishers, heaters and general workshop equipment
Skills & Experience Required
- Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on training
- Recognised engineering qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC or similar)
- Mechanical maintenance experience within manufacturing, engineering or heavy industry
- Strong mechanical fitting and fault-finding skills
- Experience working with machine shop equipment (milling, turning, lathes)
- Basic electrical knowledge advantageous but not essential
- Proactive, practical and reliable approach
Salary & Benefits
- £18.50 per hour (approx. £37,500 salary) + Annual company performance bonus
- Regular overtime available (paid at 1.5x)
- 20 days holiday + bank holidays (rising to 26 with service)

Working Hours (39 hours per week)
- Monday: 7:30am – 4:00pm
- Tuesday: 7:30am – 4:30pm
- Wednesday & Thursday: 7:30am – 5:00pm
- Friday: 7:30am – 12:00pm (early finish)
