Salary: £41,900 Hours: Monday–Friday | 8am–4pm – 37.5 hrs + Regular Overtime  
Location: St Helens Hospital, WA9 3DA

Our client, a leading provider of integrated facilities management and infrastructure solutions is hiring for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team at St Helens Hospital – a busy, safety-critical healthcare environment where reliability, compliance, and operational continuity are essential.

This is a hands-on, multi-skilled maintenance role focused on planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive works, fault finding, and supporting the day-to-day operation of critical building services across the hospital estate. The successful candidate will predominantly come from a mechanical background but must be willing to broaden their skillset through additional training and development. This could include electrical qualifications such as the 18th Edition, alongside further exposure to critical healthcare systems and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across the hospital estate
  • Carry out fault finding, repairs, and servicing on mechanical building services systems
  • Support maintenance and operation of HVAC, pumps, pipework, plant equipment, and associated systems
  • Assist with compliance checks and statutory maintenance tasks
  • Work collaboratively with electrical engineers and specialist subcontractors
  • Accurately record maintenance activities and completed works
  • Ensure all works are completed safely and in line with healthcare compliance standards
  • Participate in additional training and development to become increasingly multi-skilled

About You

  • Qualified Mechanical / Plumbing Engineer with relevant NVQ / City & Guilds qualifications
  • Experience working within commercial building services, FM, healthcare, or critical environments
  • Knowledge of HVAC, mechanical plant, water systems, or medical gas systems would be advantageous
  • Comfortable carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance
  • Willingness to undertake further training, including electrical upskilling such as 18th Edition
  • Positive attitude towards multi-skilled working and continuous development
  • Able to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team
