Mechanical Project Manager
Location: Barnsley
Salary: £55,000 – £75,000

Due to continued growth and expansion, an established engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join their Mechanical Handling division based in Barnsley.

This is a key leadership role, responsible for delivering complex, multidisciplinary turnkey engineering projects from tender through to commissioning.

The Role

As Mechanical Project Manager, you will take full ownership of high-value engineering projects, leading cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery on time, within budget, and to specification.

You will play a critical role in both the tendering and execution phases, working closely with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to deliver technically complex mechanical handling solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects from tender stage through to commissioning
  • Lead project planning, coordination, and execution to meet programme, budget, and quality targets
  • Support and contribute to the preparation of estimates, tenders, and technical specifications
  • Manage and coordinate internal engineering teams and external suppliers
  • Act as the key point of contact for clients, ensuring strong relationships and clear communication
  • Ensure compliance with contractual, statutory, and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor project performance and drive continuous improvement

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience managing complex mechanical engineering or turnkey projects
  • Strong background in mechanical handling systems, large moving structures, or heavy engineering
  • Experience managing engineering teams and coordinating multidisciplinary projects
  • Knowledge of project and contract management, including NEC or similar contract frameworks
  • Experience in estimating and tendering processes
  • HNC/HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organisational skills
  • Good understanding of relevant legislation and standards, including the European Machinery Directive
