Job Title: Mechanical Shift Engineer 
Location: East London
Shift Pattern: Continental Shift (Days & Nights)
Salary: £53,000 (Incl Shift Allowance) + Overtime

The Opportunity

A leading Facilities Management provider is seeking a Mechanical Shift Engineer to join the team at a large, high-profile energy centre in East London. This is a technically demanding environment where plant performance is critical to wider operations. The site supports key infrastructure, and the engineering team plays a direct role in maintaining reliability and efficiency around the clock.

The successful candidate will be part of a skilled shift team, working across a range of mechanical systems and responding to both planned and reactive tasks. This role suits someone who enjoys hands-on engineering and takes pride in keeping systems running properly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across all mechanical plant
  • Maintain and fault-find on systems such as pumps, valves, pipework, heat exchangers, and pressurised systems
  • Support the operation of energy centre equipment and ensure systems run efficiently
  • Monitor plant performance and identify potential issues before failure
  • Respond to breakdowns quickly to minimise disruption to service
  • Ensure all works are completed in line with health & safety and statutory compliance
  • Maintain accurate shift logs, reports, and maintenance records
  • Work collaboratively with electrical engineers and site teams
The Ideal Candidate

The organisation is looking for a hands-on, dependable Mechanical Engineer who is comfortable working in a critical environment and able to perform under pressure.

Essential:
  • Mechanical NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent qualification)
  • Proven experience working with mechanical plant in a commercial, industrial, or critical environment
  • Strong understanding of building services and mechanical systems
  • Good fault-finding and problem-solving ability
  • Experience working within a shift pattern
  • A proactive and team-focused approach
Desirable:
  • Experience working within an energy centre or similar plant environment
  • Knowledge of steam, LTHW/HTHW systems, or district heating
  • Familiarity with BMS systems
