Location: Canary Wharf, London
Salary: Up to £58,000 per annum + Bonus + Overtime
Shift Pattern: Continental Shift Pattern (Days & Nights) – 7am–7pm / 7pm–7am

The Opportunity:

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Shift Leader to join a prestigious critical environment located in Canary Wharf. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer looking to take the next step into a leadership role within a high-profile commercial site.

Working as part of a dedicated engineering team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and management of mechanical building services, ensuring all plant and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a team of shift engineers on a continental shift rota.
  • Ensure all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works are completed to a high standard.
  • Monitor and maintain critical mechanical systems including HVAC, pumps, pressurisation units, BMS interfaces, AHUs, FCUs, chilled water and heating systems.
  • Act as the site escalation point for mechanical issues and emergency situations.
  • Manage subcontractors and specialist service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures, permits to work, and site-specific regulations.
  • Carry out fault finding, diagnostics, and root cause analysis on plant failures.
  • Complete accurate reporting and handover documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

Requirements:

  • Recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, Apprenticeship or equivalent).
  • Previous experience working within commercial buildings, critical environments, data centres, banking, healthcare, or similar facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services systems.
  • Experience leading or supervising engineering teams.
  • Good understanding of safe systems of work and permit procedures.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced critical environment.
