POSITION: Lead Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrically Biased)

Monday to Friday Day shift to start with, potentially moving to Monday to Friday Double days, and possibly to Continentals in 2027
LOCATION: Northampton
SALARY: £58k + Overtime + Benefits
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

Due to ongoing growth and project demand, they are now looking to recruit a Lead Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join their skilled engineering team.

The Role

As a Lead Multi-Skilled Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving advanced automated and robotic systems. This is a hands-on position requiring both electrical expertise and a solid understanding of mechanical systems.

You will be involved in fault finding, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement of production equipment, ensuring maximum uptime and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical fault finding on automated machinery and robotic systems
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across production equipment
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
  • Basic to intermediate PLC programming, fault finding, and modification
  • Support continuous improvement and automation projects
  • Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to minimise downtime
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety standards

Requirements

  • Electrically biased Multi-Skilled Engineer
  • City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
  • Proven experience in an automation, robotics, or manufacturing environment
  • Experience with PLC systems (reading, fault finding, and basic modifications)
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Siemens, Allen Bradley, or similar PLC systems
  • Knowledge of robotics systems (e.g. ABB, FANUC, KUKA)
  • Previous experience in high-speed or automated production environments
