The Opportunity:

We are currently supporting a confidential public sector organisation in the search for an experienced Network Engineer to join their technology function on an initial 6-month contract basis for a major central government project (Government Digital Services / GDS).

This is an excellent opportunity to support and enhance critical network infrastructure within a highly secure, mission-critical environment supporting nationally important services.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining network performance, availability and security across complex enterprise environments, while supporting infrastructure modernisation, operational resilience and continuous improvement initiatives.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support, maintain and optimise enterprise network infrastructure across complex environments
  • Monitor network performance, availability and security, proactively identifying and resolving issues
  • Troubleshoot network incidents, outages and connectivity issues across multiple environments
  • Support infrastructure upgrades, migrations and network improvement projects
  • Work closely with infrastructure, security and operational teams to ensure reliable and secure network services
  • Assist with network capacity planning, resilience and disaster recovery activities
  • Support network security controls and compliance requirements

Configure and support network technologies including:

  • Routing
  • Switching
  • Firewalls
  • VPNs
  • Wireless networking

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong commercial experience operating within enterprise network engineering environments
  • Proven experience supporting and troubleshooting complex network infrastructure
  • Experience working with enterprise-grade networking equipment and technologies
  • Good understanding of network security principles and operational best practice

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience within government, healthcare or highly regulated environments
  • Exposure to cloud networking technologies within AWS and/or Azure environments
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and observability tooling
  • Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments

Strong understanding of:

  • TCP/IP
  • DNS
  • DHCP
  • Routing and switching
  • Firewalls
  • VPN technologies

Relevant networking certifications advantageous, such as:

  • CCNA
  • CCNP
  • CompTIA Network+
  • JNCIA

NB: The successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic level of security clearance before undertaking the assignment (around two weeks’ lead-time).
