Packing Operative - NIGHT SHIFT

Shift Pattern Availability: 4/7 

Nights: 7pm - 7am

Salary:£13.15 per hour rising to £13.50 once you become a Skilled Operative.

PLUS  £1 per hour Nights Premium, between 10pm - 4am

Location: Hayhill Industrial Estate, Sileby Rd, Barrow upon Soar, Loughborough LE12 8LD

The Role

Our Operatives are (quite literally) the bread and butter of Geary’s. You’re responsible for ensuring the delicious bread we produce, and package is of the best possible quality, that adds a spark of joy to people’s daily lives. Your main responsibilities include:

  • Manually folding packaging 
  • Manually re-working product
  • Manually labelling product
  • Packing product into baskets and manually stacking
  • Operating machinery (i.e., bagging units) on lines
  • Following Good Manufacturing Practice to keep Finishing area tidy and safe
  • Quality control – following SOPs to ensure product meets our quality standards
  • Meeting all Health and Safety responsibilities
  • Supporting Production, Loading and Hygiene departments when necessary

You will be moving around a busy bakery, carrying out manual and non-manual tasks, which may be physically demanding at times.

About You

  • Ability to handle manual work, including lifting, carrying, and standing for long periods.
  • Comfortable working in high-temperature environments.
  • Strong attendance record and commitment to shift patterns.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with others in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions precisely, especially regarding food safety and quality control.
  • Understanding of cleanliness and hygiene in a food production setting. (Can be trained if basic awareness exists.)
  • Comfortable with repetitive tasks and able to adjust to changing production needs.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English to understand safety protocols and instructions.
