As Payroll Manager, you'll be the heartbeat of the payroll function - leading the end‑to‑end process, guiding a small team, and making sure people get paid accurately and on time (cue applause...... but silent applause because you payrollers are a modest lot). You'll also be the go‑to expert for all things payroll, systems, compliance, and continuous improvement.This is a role for someone who enjoys variety, loves a challenge, and isn't afraid to make things better, smarter, and smoother.

What You'll Be Getting Up To

  • Running monthly payrolls across multiple sites with accuracy, calmness, and a touch of flair.
  • Keeping payroll records pristine and up to date (your inner perfectionist will be very happy).
  • Making sure tax codes, pensions, statutory payments, and deductions are spot‑on.
  • Working your magic with time & attendance data
  • Reviewing journals, reconciling accounts, and keeping the numbers honest.
  • Handling HMRC submissions like the seasoned pro you are.
  • Uploading BACS files and ensuring everything is signed, sealed, and delivered.
  • Solving payroll queries with patience, clarity, and confidentiality.
  • Spotting opportunities to improve processes and championing smarter ways of working.
  • Owning payroll dashboards
  • Leading annual planning, timelines, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Building resilience into the payroll function
  • Hosting remote payroll clinics that people actually want to attend.

What You Bring

  • Extensive hands‑on payroll experience in a complex, multi‑site environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation (you know your stuff).
  • Excellent IT skills, especially Excel.
  • Experience of making T&A work with your Payroll software; exposure to a system like Workday, iTrent or Zellis would be ideal.
  • Brilliant organisational skills and the ability to stay cool under pressure.
  • A collaborative, proactive, solutions‑focused mindset.
