Hales Group are recruiting for an experienced PCBA Technician to join our client based near Letchworth. Key Responsibilities
Soldering & PCB Assembly
- Carry out precision hand‑soldering of THT and SMT components onto PCBs.
- Perform rework, touch‑up, and repair of solder joints in line with IPC‑A‑610 workmanship standards.
- Handle fine‑pitch, high‑density, and complex components using soldering irons, hot‑air rework tools, and associated equipment.
- Conduct visual and magnified inspection of solder joints to verify quality and compliance.
- Build mechanical assemblies and sub‑assemblies using hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and torque‑controlled tools.
- Install PCBAs into enclosures, brackets, and chassis following approved drawings and work instructions.
- Fit connectors, fasteners, standoffs, and cable looms as required for each build.
- Work accurately from engineering drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation throughout the production process.
- Identify, document, and escalate defects, non‑conformances, or process deviations to the Production Manager.
- Maintain accurate build records, travellers, and traceability documentation.
- Adhere to ESD‑safe handling procedures and maintain safe working practices at all times.
- Support the wider production team during periods of increased workload or shifting priorities.
- Assist with goods‑in checks, kitting, and component preparation when required.
Key Requirements
- Proficiency in soldering of THT and/or SMT components
- Familiarity with assembly processes including conformal coating, vapour phase processes and selective soldering
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Strong ability to work proactively
- IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certified (desirable)
- Awareness of ISO90001 or AS9100 (desirable)
