Our client, Ringway Jacobs, a leading provider of integrated highways management, is seeking a Permit Technician to join their team in Crewe.

Cheshire East Highways manages over 2,700km of highway network, delivering essential infrastructure that keeps communities and businesses connected. This role plays a key part in supporting the Network Management team across the Cheshire East Authority area. You will help ensure that all permitting and street works activities are fully compliant with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991, the Traffic Management Act (TMA) 2004, the West and Shires Permit (WaSP) Scheme, and all relevant codes of practice.

The Role

  • To perform the duties of a Permit Technician associated with Statutory & Private Undertakers and Cheshire East highway works under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA), Traffic Management Act 2004 (TMA), and the Highway Maintenance Act 1980.
  • Co-ordinate, prioritise and regulate all activities within a defined area of responsibility across the highway network with a view to discharging all network management duties and ensuring the protection of the integrity of the street.
  • Effectively co-ordinate the highway network by reviewing all permit applications received in-line with the West and Shires Permit (WaSP) Scheme. Also, to review and support the co-ordination in relation to Skips/Scaffolds/S50 road opening licences, S171 applications and road closures.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders and services providers to ensure the effective operation of the Council’s Lane Rental Scheme.
  • Support the wider organisation in the adhereance of permit requirements including actual starts/works stops and registering reinstatements.

About You

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Confident IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to prioritise work effectively and manage your own workload
  • Clear communication skills for working with a range of stakeholders
  • Attention to detail when reviewing applications and updating systems
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Ability to learn and apply legislation, codes, and local procedures
  • GCSE level education or equivalent
  • Comfortable working with digital systems and maintaining accurate records
  • Interest in highways, infrastructure, or public service environments
