As a Specialist Pharmacy Technician – Procurement, you will be responsible for managing the operational delivery of medicines purchasing activities, ensuring financial processes are completed accurately and within required timescales. You will be responsible for supporting effective collaboration with the Finance team to minimise financial risk and maintain efficient invoice management processes. You will be managing procurement systems, workflows and team activities to maintain service standards and continuity of supply. You will be supporting a positive and collaborative working culture, promoting the contribution of the procurement team to wider pharmacy services and patient care, while ensuring high standards of customer service and operational performance are maintained.

Responsibilities of this job role 

• To build and maintain effective relationships with pharmaceutical suppliers, external partners and internal stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and supporting the delivery of high-quality procurement outcomes across the organisation.

• To support the development, implementation and review of procurement policies, standard operating procedures and training resources, ensuring staff remain informed of current requirements and best practice standards.

• To monitor contract performance, supplier compliance and key performance indicators, taking appropriate action to address areas of concern and promote continuous service improvement.

• To maintain procurement systems and digital platforms, supporting the effective use of e-commerce solutions, purchasing technologies and data management processes to enhance operational efficiency.

• To provide specialist advice and information on medicine pricing, product availability and procurement-related matters, supporting informed decision-making by clinical, operational and financial stakeholders.

• To contribute to workforce development through recruitment, induction, training and appraisal activities, while supporting professional development, governance requirements and participation in service-wide improvement initiatives.

To be successful in applying for this role you will need: 

• NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science (or equivalent).

Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

• Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council and relevant pharmacy qualification.

• Experience within hospital pharmacy settings, including medicines procurement processes and operational service delivery.

• Demonstrable experience of supervising, training and supporting staff within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.

• Proven ability to manage workload independently, prioritise tasks effectively and perform under pressure in a complex setting.

• Strong analytical skills with experience in interpreting data, producing reports and supporting evidence-based decision making.

• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to manage sensitive discussions professionally.

• Understanding of governance principles in relation to medicines procurement, with awareness of compliance, accountability and safe practice requirements.

• Experience of working within governance frameworks in a healthcare setting, supporting adherence to policies, standards and regulatory expectations.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems and digital tools.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating professionalism, approachability and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

• Demonstrates behaviours aligned with organisational values, including integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
