This role requires solid experience with the mechanical design of electric motors.
As principal mechanical design engineer you will:
  • Lead the mechanical design of high voltage electric motors for automotive applications
  • Be responsible for thermal performance and physical integration of the motors
  • Support the delivery of motors into production (DFM / DFA)
The company is involved with the design of HV electric motor drive systems for automotive applications. They require an experience mechanical design engineer with strong hands-on design capabilities to enable the delivery of electric motors from concept to series production.

Skills / Knowledge Required: Principal Mechanical Design Engineer – Electric Motors
  • A degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g. mechanical engineering, automotive engineering)
  • At least 5-6 years of relevant design experience aligned to electric motors / electric machines
  • Capable with employing thermal management strategies (e.g. air or liquid cooling of motors)
  • Experience of taking electric motor designs through to validated prototype stage or ideally into manufacture
  • Good experience with DFM / DFA for complex electromechanical devices (e.g. motors)
  • Excellent problem solving and failure analysis skills (e.g. FMEA)
  • Able to work effectively in a small team environment
Other experience (beneficial)
  • Experience of devising test and validation processes for electric machines or similar
  • Experience of prototype build and test would be very useful
  • Ability to travel to meet customer needs would be advantageous
