Principal Mechanical Engineer – Energy from Waste Fleet

SCINERGY Recruitment are recruiting for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the mechanical engineering function across a fleet of Energy from Waste power stations.

This is a senior engineering role focused on supporting mechanical plant performance, engineering standards, reliability and continuous improvement across multiple EfW facilities. The successful candidate will provide expert technical guidance to site teams, support the delivery of mechanical engineering projects, and play a key role in ensuring plant is operated and maintained safely, efficiently and in line with statutory, environmental and operational requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer from an EfW, power generation, utilities, heavy process or similar industrial background to take on a fleet-wide role with real technical influence.

The role will involve:

  • Delivering mechanical engineering projects and improvement works across the EfW fleet
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining fleet-wide mechanical engineering standards
  • Providing technical support and practical solutions for complex site-based mechanical issues
  • Supporting the optimisation of plant performance, reliability and availability
  • Monitoring engineering projects on site to ensure best practice, design standards and engineering compliance are met
  • Supporting safe systems of work and ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental standards
  • Providing guidance on mechanical safety issues, maintenance strategy and engineering risk
  • Supporting incident investigations, root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives
  • Working closely with site maintenance, operations, engineering and senior leadership teams
  • Supporting the development of maintenance systems, asset strategies and continuous improvement programmes
  • Managing and influencing stakeholders, contractors, suppliers and third-party engineering partners
  • Representing the business in technical meetings and contributing to industry best practice discussions

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Membership of a recognised engineering institution would be desirable but not essential
  • Strong mechanical engineering experience within power generation, Energy from Waste, utilities, heavy process or a similar industrial environment
  • Experience in a senior engineering, maintenance, reliability or technical support role
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical plant including boilers, steam systems, turbines, pumps, valves, conveyors, pressure systems and rotating equipment
  • A good understanding of safe systems of work, permit-to-work procedures and engineering standards
  • Knowledge of relevant statutory engineering regulations and compliance requirements – PSSR, LOLER etc
  • Experience delivering engineering projects and improvement works within technically complex operational environments
  • The ability to provide expert technical advice and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience of fault finding, root cause analysis and reliability improvement
  • Experience managing contractors, third parties and specialist vendors
  • A full UK driving licence is required due to UK wide travel
