As a Principal Transport Planner you will lead the development and delivery of transport policies, strategies, and projects aligned with local, regional, and national priorities. You will provide expert advice to elected members, senior leaders, developers, consultants, and external partners, ensuring transport considerations are effectively integrated into planning, regeneration, and growth programmes.

This role requires 1-2 days per week in the office and attendance at meetings when required.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading complex transport planning projects from concept through to delivery.
  • Developing and implementing transport strategies, policies, and action plans.
  • Managing transport assessments, modelling studies, and business cases.
  • Providing specialist advice on planning applications and development proposals.
  • Supporting and mentoring transport planning staff to develop capability across the team.
  • Presenting reports and recommendations to senior management, committees, and public forums. 

Experience needed:

  • A degree in Transport Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in transport planning within local government, consultancy, or a related environment.
  • Strong knowledge of transport policy, development planning, and sustainable transport principles.
  • Experience managing complex projects, budgets, and external consultants.
