Production Planning Engineer

We’re working with a well-established precision engineering business supplying high-spec components into the aerospace sector, and they’re now looking to bring in an experienced Production Planning Engineer to support their growing operation.
This is a key position within the business, responsible for planning and coordinating production across a range of machining and gear-cutting processes, ensuring jobs move efficiently through the shop floor and customer deadlines are met.
This would suit someone with previous planning experience in CNC, precision machining, aerospace, gear cutting, or complex manufacturing environment who understands how to manage workflow, capacity, subcontract processes, and bottlenecks in a fast-paced production setting.
Key responsibilities:
- Create and maintain detailed production schedules across multiple departments
- Plan workflow across CNC turning, milling, gear cutting, grinding, inspection and subcontract processes
- Manage priorities, urgent jobs and bottlenecks to keep production moving
- Work closely with shop floor supervisors, procurement, quality and operations
- Monitor WIP and adjust plans based on machine capacity, delays, breakdowns or changing customer demand
- Maintain routing, lead times and capacity data within the ERP/MRP system
- Support on-time delivery performance and continuous improvement across planning and flow
- Provide realistic lead time and scheduling input where required
What we’re looking for:
- Previous experience in production planning within a precision engineering or machining environment
- Strong understanding of multi-stage manufacturing processes
- Experience planning around capacity constraints, machine availability and complex routings
- Knowledge of subcontract services such as heat treatment, coating or finishing
- Comfortable working with ERP/MRP systems and production data
- Good understanding of engineering drawings, process routes and manufacturing workflow
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate across multiple departments
- Confident using Excel / Microsoft 365
Desirable:
- Experience within aerospace, gear manufacturing or other highly regulated engineering sectors
- HNC / HND / Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or Operations
- Planning or inventory-related qualifications
