Deliver Critical Power Infrastructure Projects Across the UK
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Project Manager / Project Engineer to join a growing Power Division delivering major electricity infrastructure projects that support the UK's transition to a more sustainable and resilient energy network.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of the engineering delivery of complex HV cable route projects, working alongside multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions for some of the most challenging infrastructure environments in the UK.
You'll play a pivotal role in bridging engineering design and project delivery, ensuring technical solutions are safe, buildable, commercially viable and compliant from concept through to construction.
The Opportunity
As part of the Power Division, you will lead the engineering and technical coordination of cable route projects involving:
- High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) infrastructure
- Grid connections and network reinforcement schemes
- Underground cable routes
- Trenchless installation solutions
- Major crossings involving highways, railways, rivers and other critical infrastructure
- Complex stakeholder and statutory approval processes
Working closely with design, construction and commercial teams, you will assess route constraints, develop crossing methodologies and drive engineering solutions that enable successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering activities across power infrastructure projects from pre-construction through to delivery.
- Develop and review engineering solutions for complex cable route crossings and constrained environments.
- Manage feasibility studies, optioneering exercises and technical assessments.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and review engineering outputs before formal approvals.
- Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, client specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor programme, cost and resource requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide technical leadership and support to project teams and delivery partners.
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Produce clear technical reports and project updates for clients and senior stakeholders.
- Manage relationships with statutory authorities, asset owners and utility stakeholders.
About You
You will have a strong background in civil engineering, power infrastructure, utilities or major infrastructure projects and be comfortable managing complex engineering challenges from concept through to construction.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:
- Power transmission, distribution or utility infrastructure projects.
- Cable route engineering and underground cable installations.
- Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), trenchless technologies, tunnelling or specialist crossing methodologies.
- Engineering solutions involving rail, highways, waterways, bridges and buried assets.
- Managing design consultants and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Stakeholder engagement with infrastructure owners and regulatory bodies.
- Technical project management within highly regulated environments.
Desired Knowledge & Experience
- Understanding of DNO and IDNO standards.
- Experience working with organisations such as National Highways, Network Rail, Transport for London, Canal & River Trust and the Environment Agency.
- Knowledge of structural, geotechnical and environmental engineering principles.
- Experience supporting major power transmission or grid connection projects.
What You'll Bring
- Strong technical and commercial judgement.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- A proactive approach to problem solving and risk management.
- The ability to balance engineering excellence with practical delivery requirements.
- Strong leadership capabilities and a collaborative working style.
Package
- £65,000 - £75,000 basic salary
- Company Car
- 10% Annual Bonus
- Private Medical Insurance
- Hybrid Working
- Ongoing Career Development
- Opportunity to work on nationally significant energy infrastructure projects
