The Project:
You'll be leading the delivery of a major Access for All (AFA) scheme at a railway station in Cardiff. The project involves the construction of a new pedestrian bridge, lift installation and a link span connection into the Cardiff Student Life building.
Currently progressing through the final stages of detailed design, enabling works are underway and the main construction phase is due to commence later this year. The construction programme is expected to run for approximately 12 months, providing an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a complex, high-profile infrastructure project from mobilisation through to completion.
Role Overview:
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of infrastructure projects, my client is looking to appoint a Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of this flagship project.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for project delivery, acting as the key interface between the client, stakeholders and site teams. This is a highly visible role requiring strong leadership, commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
Whilst the project is being delivered within a rail environment, my client places greater emphasis on heavy civils experience than rail-specific experience. Candidates with a strong background in bridge construction, reinforced concrete, piling and major infrastructure projects are strongly encouraged to apply.
You will join a lean, collaborative contractor that consistently delivers projects beyond its size, with an exciting future pipeline of work that offers genuine long-term career prospects.
Key Responsibilities:
·Lead the successful delivery of a major Access for All station enhancement project.
·Manage all aspects of project delivery from mobilisation through to completion.
·Administer NEC4 contracts and ensure compliance with contractual timescales and obligations.
·Manage project programmes, budgets, risk and resource allocation.
·Coordinate site teams, subcontractors and supply chain partners.
·Build and maintain strong relationships with Transport for Wales and key stakeholders.
·Monitor project performance, quality, health and safety, and commercial outcomes.
·Attend client, design and project review meetings.
·Provide leadership and support to site management and engineering teams.
·Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme requirements.
Essential Requirements:
·Proven experience delivering heavy civils projects as a Project Manager or Senior Agent on rail, highways or other infrastructure projects for a contractor.
·Strong experience in bridge construction and structural works.
·Knowledge of piling, reinforced concrete and complex infrastructure projects.
·Experience administering NEC contracts.
·Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
·Ability to confidently manage contractual discussions and stakeholder expectations.
·Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Requirements:
·Previous experience delivering rail infrastructure projects.
·Access for All (AFA) project experience.
·Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor background.
·HNC, HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar.
·Chartered status or working towards professional accreditation.
Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a flagship infrastructure project that will leave a lasting legacy in Cardiff.
You'll be leading the delivery of a high-profile Access for All scheme at a local railway station. The project offers the type of complex engineering challenges that many Project Managers rarely get the opportunity to lead from start to finish.
Beyond the immediate project, you'll be joining a contractor that is continuing to grow its presence across rail and civil engineering infrastructure. The business is actively pursuing major framework opportunities with Network Rail and Transport for Wales, alongside involvement in significant schemes including Cardiff Crossrail and a growing portfolio of structures and property projects across the UK.
Unlike larger organisations where Project Managers can become one of many, this role offers genuine visibility and influence. You'll work closely with senior leadership, have the autonomy to make key project decisions, and play a significant role in shaping future project delivery within the business.
This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys being close to projects, working within a collaborative team environment and taking pride in delivering technically challenging infrastructure schemes.
About the Company:
My client is a growing, family-run infrastructure contractor with a reputation for delivering complex projects successfully through a collaborative, hands-on approach. The business operates with a lean structure and a strong team culture, allowing individuals to have a genuine impact on project success and company growth.
With secured work across rail, civils, structures and property sectors, alongside several major framework opportunities currently being pursued, this is an excellent time to join a business with ambitious plans for the future.
Please note that this is a site and office-based role. Due to the nature of the position and project requirements, hybrid working is not available.
