LAB Technician - Quality Control

Location: Newton Aycliffe, County Durham
Contract Length: 3 months
Working Hours: 39 hours per week
Pay Rate: £17.75 ph (£14.38 per hour + £3.37 shift allowance)



Our client is seeking a LAB Technician to support the Aycliffe Quality Control team on a short‑term project. This is a site‑based role requiring full shift commitment and offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on laboratory and quality experience within a regulated manufacturing environment.

The role involves quality testing of manufactured products, operating laboratory testing equipment, and ensuring all quality and safety standards are met.



Shift Pattern

This role operates on a 3‑shift rotation:

  • 6:00am - 2:00pm
  • 2:00pm - 10:00pm
  • 10:00pm - 6:00am

Candidates must be willing to work all shifts as part of the rotation.
5 days per week on site.



Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all site EHS policies and safety requirements
  • Operate quality testing equipment and testing systems
  • Perform quality testing on site and offsite manufactured products
  • Control shipping release in line with quality standards and deadlines
  • Rapidly communicate non‑conformances to relevant manufacturing areas
  • Accurately analyse, interpret, and record test data
  • Complete reports and documentation to required standards
  • Work independently where required and collaboratively as part of the Quality team


Essential:

  • Previous quality, laboratory, or manufacturing environment experience
  • Strong IT skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong data analysis capability
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage priorities
  • Strong communication skills at all levels of the organisation
  • Safety‑conscious mindset and willingness to learn new tasks

Desirable:

  • Quality department and shift‑working experience
  • Knowledge of SPC, SAP, DPQX, RSFs, and quality standards
  • Familiarity with test equipment and laboratory systems
  • Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement tools
  • Experience with Outlook, e‑Matrix, and SAP
  • Report writing experience
  • Mathematical competence

You will be detail‑focused, safety‑aware, and comfortable working either independently or as part of a team. You'll be able to follow procedures closely, take direction, and operate effectively in a shift‑based laboratory environment.
