We are seeking a Quality Engineer (Mechanical) to join our team in Capenhurst or Birchwood. In this role, you will support, monitor, and inspect technical processes to ensure that new facilities meet stringent quality standards and comply with all applicable regulations.
You will be responsible for overseeing all quality-related aspects of project delivery, working closely with Project Managers and reporting to the Project Quality Manager to ensure successful execution of Urenco’s projects.

What you’ll do:
As a Quality Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with contractors, suppliers, project managers, and internal teams to deliver high-quality outcomes
- Documentation Review: Review technical and quality documents, ensuring compliance with requirements and standards
- Quality Planning: Support the development and maintenance of key quality documents (QCPs, ITPs, audit records)
- Lifecycle Oversight: Monitor quality across all project phases, including manufacturing, construction, and commissioning
- Technical Interpretation: Read and apply engineering drawings, materials knowledge, and relevant engineering practices
- Standards Compliance: Ensure alignment with quality standards (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 19443) and site requirements
- Supplier Quality: Support supplier assurance activities, including reviewing plans and conducting audits and assessments
- Non-Conformance Management: Identify, manage, and escalate non-conformances, risks, and improvement opportunities
- Performance Tracking: Monitor and report on KPIs, audit findings, and action closure
- Continuous Improvement: Lead or contribute to improvement initiatives using data and lessons learned
- Quality Culture: Promote strong quality behaviours and provide guidance on best practice and regulatory requirements
- Project Support: Support the Project Quality Manager in delivering project quality activities and building future capability
What do you need to thrive in this role?
- Experience: 5–10 years’ experience in a technical or quality engineering environment
- Standards Knowledge: Strong understanding of quality standards and regulations (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 19443; ISO 10005 beneficial)
- Inspection & Auditing: Experience with inspection and certification processes, including supplier audits and inspections
- Technical Capability: Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications and translate them into quality and inspection plans
- Quality Planning: Proven experience developing and reviewing QCPs and Manufacturing Inspection & Test Plans (MITPs)
- Project Lifecycle Exposure: Experience supporting quality across the full project lifecycle, from design through to delivery
- Self-Management: Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently
- Flexibility: Willingness to travel, including internationally
Desirable Skills
- Risk & Problem Solving: Familiarity with risk-based quality tools such as FMEA and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Supplier Management: Experience working with suppliers to improve quality performance and delivery
- Data Analysis: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and support decision-making
- Continuous Improvement: Knowledge of methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma
- Welding Expertise: In-depth knowledge of welding processes and international standards (IWT qualification preferred)
- Communication: Ability to clearly present complex information to a variety of stakeholders
Professional Certifications (Desirable)
- Auditing: CQI/IRCA Internal Auditor or IRCA Lead Auditor (ISO 9001)
- Professional Recognition: Chartered Quality Professional (CQP) or equivalent

Security vetting
Due to the nature of the industry that Urenco operates in, all personnel regardless of employment status working for Urenco are required to obtain security clearance at the level required for their role. Security clearances are assessed in accordance with regulations and official guidance issued by the relevant competent authorities for national security vetting. In certain circumstances, additional enhanced security clearance considerations apply to roles within Urenco owing to the particular activities that the Urenco Group undertakes in relation to uranium enrichment. Successful candidates will need to satisfy security requirements, and all offers of appointment are made subject to the successful approval of all checks initiated.
