Job Overview

The QA Manager is responsible for leading the Food Safety and Quality Assurance function across the site, ensuring compliance with food safety legislation, customer standards, and industry requirements.

The role works closely with production, operational, supplier, and customer teams to maintain high standards of food safety, quality, legality, and compliance while driving continuous improvement across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage site compliance with food safety legislation, retailer standards, and industry requirements.
  • Maintain HACCP systems, allergen controls, traceability, labelling compliance, and product integrity standards.
  • Act as a key contact for regulatory authorities, customers, and third-party auditors.
  • Manage and maintain the site Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Monitor technical KPIs, including complaints, non-conformances, audit findings, and microbiological results.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across food safety, quality, and compliance processes.
  • Coordinate customer, third-party, and regulatory audits, ensuring corrective actions are completed effectively.
  • Conduct internal audits and verification activities to maintain ongoing compliance.
  • Manage customer complaints, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Support supplier approval processes and ensure supplier compliance documentation is maintained.
  • Ensure GMP, hygiene, and environmental monitoring standards are maintained across the site.
  • Promote a strong food safety and quality culture throughout the business.
  • Support product recall and crisis management procedures.
  • Lead and support the QA team, including training, development, and performance management.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to production and operational teams.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience within food manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMP, allergen management, and UK food legislation.
  • Experience managing BRC and customer audits.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Advanced HACCP qualification.
  • Internal or Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Experience working within retail supply chains.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
