Quality Manager Overview:

  • Own AS9100 quality activity on site and keep audits controlled and stress-free

  • Drive internal rejects down through proper RCA, 8D discipline and follow-through

  • Keep the QMS lean and effective, improving discipline rather than rebuilding it
  • Possibility of working a 4-day week

This Quality Manager role reports to the General Manager and takes ownership of quality across a Christchurch-based precision engineering business, with support to a second site around one day per week. The Quality Manager will maintain AS9100, support inspection activity, sign off FAIRs, lead audits, and be the first point of contact for quality questions from machinists and inspectors. The QMS has already been simplified, so this Quality Manager position is about maintaining standards, improving follow-through and tightening control of internal rejects and day-to-day quality issues.

Day-to-day responsibilities of a Quality Manager

  • Maintain AS9100 compliance, audit readiness and day-to-day QMS control as the Quality Manager
  • Support the second site’s quality activity and help progress from ISO 9001 toward AS9100
  • Lead internal, customer and external audits, ensuring actions close properly and stay closed
  • Run internal quality issue control: NCRs, internal rejects, concessions, RCCA and 8D closure
  • Review and sign off FAIR packs and support shop floor understanding of requirements
  • Support and guide the inspection team on priorities, queries and technical challenges
  • Work hands-on with machinists and production to resolve quality problems quickly and properly
  • Track repeat issues and drive corrective actions through to completion, not partial fixes
  • Maintain key quality records and inspection documentation without unnecessary paperwork
  • Support improvement activity as it develops, including potential future SPC use
