Some people want a nice, safe corporate role with 14 approval layers, three TEAMS calls about one variation, and a spreadsheet called “Final_Final_v27”.
This probably isn’t for them.
This is a small contractor that has been around for just under 20yrs, delivering high-end residential and light commercial fit-out projects across London and the Home Counties.
Projects range from roughly £300k - £2m with a longer-term target turnover of £10m - but profit and quality matter more than pretending turnover is a personality trait. They’re looking for someone commercially strong who understands the numbers side of construction properly. QS, estimating and some contracts management (that's more of a bonus) - ideally someone who can cover multiple areas, although they’re open-minded on structure for the right person.
The owner currently still has his hands in surveying & estimating and wants someone capable enough to help take that weight off properly. Not just that, but someone who will be part of the company, has a big say, bounce ideas off and help drive things forward.
The role:
• Cost planning, valuations, variations and reporting
• Tendering and procurement
• Subcontractor management
• Commercial oversight across multiple projects
• Working closely with site teams, clients, architects and directors
• Helping improve systems and processes as the business grows
What they want:
• Good construction knowledge
• Residential refurb / prime residential / fit-out experience
• Strong commercial awareness
• Someone proactive and hands-on
• Able to manage multiple jobs without falling apart because two phones rang at once
• Comfortable working remotely but still part of a close-knit team

• Award-winning contractor
• Repeat and negotiated work
• Known architects and interior designers
• 6 direct employees
• Several staff with 15+ years’ service
• In-house joinery workshop in West London
• Typically have 2–5 projects running at once
• Hybrid/remote working with weekly/monthly meetings
Most importantly - they don’t just want an employee.
They want someone who can become part of the business long-term, with equity/stake on offer from the start for the right person.
