Quantity Surveyor
Borne Resourcing Limited
Work stretches across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.
We’re looking for a QS who’s been through it.
Not just “aware of risk” - but has a sixth sense for it… usually triggered by the phrase “it’s only a small change.”
You’ll recognise the classics:
- The “temporary” road that outlives the project and half the team
- IFC drawings that arrive just after you’ve pressed place order
- Subcontractor scopes that read well… until you actually read them
- A VE saving that somehow turns into a £50k lesson
The role:
3 live solar farm jobs (civils packages, ~£3m each):
- Eaton Socon
- Great Wymondley
- Little Hale Fen
spot the problem before it becomes a meeting,
and fix it before it becomes a dispute.
Set-up:
- 3–4 days on site
- 1–2 days in Knightsbridge
- Yes, actual site presence - not just muting yourself on Teams while chaos unfolds elsewhere
- Compounds, access roads, groundworks, battery bases
- Temporary works (where profit either quietly appears… or vanishes without witnesses)
- Design & build - so knowing what you’re buying matters just as much as how much
- Proper civils experience (non-negotiable)
- Contractor-side background
- Someone who understands that “we’ll pick that up later” is where jobs go to die
- Can value engineer without accidentally inventing a future claim
There’s 2 years of work here already, with more coming - so this isn’t a short-term firefight. It’s a steady run of work (with the usual level of controlled chaos).
Location:
Potentially ideal for someone around St Neots / Stevenage who prefers muddy boots over clean spreadsheets.
If you’ve ever heard “it’s within budget” and immediately wanted to see the detail… we should talk.
Immediate start for the right person.
