Main Responsibilities
As Registered Manager, you will lead the children's home, providing leadership, guidance, and support to residential care staff while ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and OFSTED standards. You will model best practice, support staff through challenging situations, act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), and contribute as a member of the Senior Management Team. Significant experience supporting children with learning disabilities, mental health needs, and complex needs within a solo children's home environment is essential.
Key Duties
1. Service Development, Care & Quality Assurance
You will ensure that social care policies remain up to date, reflect best practice, and promote equality, diversity, and inclusion. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating care policies, implementing training where required, evaluating care quality, driving continuous improvement, supporting staff following challenging incidents, and participating in assessments, reviews, transitions, and care planning for young people. You will work closely with education, health, and therapy professionals to provide integrated support and enhance outcomes for children and young people.
2. Leadership, Staffing & Compliance
You will oversee residential and clinical teams, ensuring compliance with Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards. This includes reviewing staffing structures, line managing senior care managers, supporting disciplinary and grievance processes, conducting annual appraisals, identifying and addressing training needs, and coordinating staff induction, supervision, and development programmes. You will also work closely with Human Resources on recruitment and staffing matters.
3. Safeguarding & Operational Management
You will work alongside Social Care, Education, LADO, and OFSTED to ensure all safeguarding and child protection procedures are effectively implemented. Responsibilities include managing safeguarding concerns, ensuring staff receive appropriate safeguarding and behaviour management training, monitoring incidents involving restraint, and promoting strategies to reduce restrictive practices.
In addition, you will manage delegated budgets, ensure appropriate staffing cover and on-call arrangements, contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, represent the organisation at external meetings, maintain compliance with Health & Safety policies, undertake required training, and carry out any other duties reasonably expected of a Registered Manager. Some travel across the UK may be required.
4. Health & Safety Responsibilities
In accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Act 1999, you are required to take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others, cooperate with the company to ensure legal compliance, report any serious risks or shortcomings in safety arrangements, and not misuse equipment provided for safety purposes.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum Level 5 Diploma in Children's Residential Care.
- Minimum 2 years' experience working within an OFSTED-regulated children's home.
- Significant experience supporting children with learning disabilities, mental health needs, and complex needs.
- Valid UK work authorisation.
- Driving Licence (preferred).
