The Role
As Rent Income Officer, you will be responsible for maximising rental income, reducing arrears, and ensuring strong financial performance across the organisation’s housing stock.
You will operate with a high level of autonomy and accountability, managing rent income as a core business function and playing a key role in supporting the organisation’s continued growth.
Key Responsibilities of a Rent Income Officer:
- Drive rent collection performance across the full portfolio
- Actively manage and reduce arrears levels
- Manage Universal Credit (UC) and Housing Benefit (HB) cases end-to-end
- Resolve unallocated payments and payment delays with councils and DWP
- Proactively manage high-risk and zero-payment tenants
- Implement and monitor repayment plans
- Escalate cases where required, including NOSPs and possession proceedings
- Monitor collection rates and improve payment behaviour
- Manage and coordinate remote/offshore support teams
- Produce structured, KPI-driven weekly reports focused on actions and outcomes
- Work closely with senior leadership to influence decisions and improve performance
- Proven experience in rent income and arrears management within social housing
- Strong knowledge of Universal Credit and Housing Benefit processes
- Experience managing large housing portfolios (1,000+ units preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills for tracking and performance reporting
- Comfortable working independently without reliance on specific systems
- Experience managing or working with remote teams
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
