Resident Engineer - Darlington

Permanent: Excellent salary + comprehensive benefits package

We are recruiting for a Resident Engineer to be based full-time at a major manufacturing facility in Darlington. Working as part of a small on-site engineering team, you will be responsible for the monitoring, maintenance, calibration and fault diagnosis of specialist test and measurement equipment, ensuring maximum uptime and reliable operation.

This is a hands-on role focused on routine electrical servicing, preventative maintenance and technical support. You will act as the primary point of contact for day-to-day equipment issues whilst working closely with specialist engineers who provide additional support when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line fault finding and diagnosis on specialist test and measurement equipment.
  • Carry out routine electrical servicing, maintenance and calibration activities.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify potential issues before they impact operations.
  • Complete maintenance, calibration and service documentation accurately and on time.
  • Issue calibration certificates and associated reports where required.
  • Plan and manage scheduled maintenance and calibration activities.
  • Maintain detailed service records and technical reports.
  • Escalate technical issues through internal support systems when necessary.
  • Build effective working relationships with customer personnel and engineering colleagues.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with quality, safety and company procedures.
  • Attend training activities and support wider engineering activities where required.

Candidate Requirements

  • HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Previous experience within maintenance, service, calibration or test engineering environments.
  • Good understanding of electrical systems and equipment.
  • PLC knowledge would be advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Self-motivated, reliable and professional approach.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Comprehensive training and ongoing technical development.
  • Long-term stable position within a well-established engineering organisation.
  • Opportunity to work with advanced test and measurement technology.
  • Supportive team environment with specialist engineering backing.

Interested?

This role would suit a practical, electrically biased engineer who enjoys a stable, hands-on environment focused on maintenance, diagnostics and customer support rather than project-based or design engineering work. If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
