Residential Support Worker
Arbour Healthcare Group · Direct employer
At Arbour Healthcare Group, we provide specialist residential care for children and young people who need consistent, safe, nurturing and emotionally attuned adults around them.
We are not here simply to manage behaviour. We are here to understand the story behind it, build trust, create safety and help young people believe that change is possible.
We are now looking for Waking Night Residential Support Workers to join our specialist children’s residential homes in Ruabon. Our homes support young people with complex needs, trauma histories, emotional distress, learning needs and behaviours that can sometimes challenge.
This role is not passive. Waking nights are not just about being awake in the building. You will be part of the emotional safety of the home overnight, helping young people feel reassured, supported and protected during the hours when anxiety, distress and dysregulation can often increase.
About the role
As a Children’s Residential Support Worker on waking nights, you will support young people with ASD, LD and ADHD throughout the night by providing a calm, consistent and reliable adult presence.
You will help maintain a safe and nurturing home environment, respond appropriately to young people’s needs, complete welfare checks, support routines, record information accurately and work as part of the wider care team to ensure continuity of care.
You will also play an important role in safeguarding, professional recording, communication with colleagues and ensuring that young people are supported in line with their care plans, risk assessments and individual needs.
What you will be doing
- Providing high-quality, person-centred care to children and young people
- Creating a safe, predictable and supportive environment overnight
- Responding calmly and confidently to challenging situations
- Completing accurate records, logs, observations and incident reports
- Following safeguarding procedures and escalating concerns appropriately
- Supporting young people with routines, emotional regulation and reassurance
- Working as part of a dedicated residential care team
- Promoting dignity, privacy, respect and positive relationships
- Supporting the delivery of our RESET Care Model: Reassure, Empower, Support, Educate and Transition
What we are looking for
We are looking for people who are resilient, emotionally steady and genuinely committed to making a difference.
You do not need to be perfect - but you do need to Be Kind. You also need to care, listen, learn, reflect and keep showing up with the right attitude.
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience working with children, young people, vulnerable adults, complex needs, mental health, learning disabilities, education, youth work or residential care
An understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
The ability to remain calm in difficult or challenging situations
Good written communication and recording skills
A professional, caring and consistent approach
A willingness to learn about trauma-informed care, PACE, therapeutic approaches and positive behaviour support
A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
The ability to add business insurance to your vehicle if required
Previous experience in a children’s residential home is desirable, but we are also open to applicants with the right values, mindset and commitment to learn.
