Job Title: Sales Advisor
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Location: Croydon
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 5:00pm (45 hours per week)
Salary: £33,000 – £36,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Optima are delighted to be partnering with a respected Builders Merchant in Croydon to recruit an experienced Sales Advisor.
Our client has been serving the local building trade supplying a comprehensive range of products across Timber, Plumbing, Heating, Renewables, and Sanitaryware, and have built an excellent reputation for delivering outstanding customer service and expert product knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve customers at the trade counter, providing product advice and processing sales
- Assemble customer orders and assist with product collection (some lifting and carrying required)
- Handle customer enquiries and orders via telephone and email
- Research and source products not currently stocked to help fulfil customer requirements
- Provide accurate information regarding products, pricing, and order status
- Resolve customer queries efficiently and professionally
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers
- Deliver a consistently high standard of customer service
Requirements
- Previous sales advisor experience
- Knowledge of products within the Builders Merchant industry
- Experience in both telephone sales and counter sales environments
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong product knowledge within building materials and associated products
- Good computer literacy and administrative skills
- Professional, friendly, and proactive approach
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Desirable Skills
- Previous sales advisor experience within the Builders Merchant industry
- Understanding of product margins and profitability
- Ability to calculate product quantities and measurements accurately
- Knowledge of timber, plumbing, heating, renewables, or related building products
